  1. New to road riding. What is the purpose of bib type riding shorts?

I'm also new to riding and will pick up bibs because:
1.they don't have a waistband that can cut into your hips
2.they keep everything in place because of suspenders; reduces chafing

waistbands should be on the waist not the hips!! 😉 j/k

seriously though, i take deep breaths using my abdominal muscles and find bibs to be less restrictive on the abdomen vs. a waistband.

they cost more, but are worth it, imo.

  4. I just started cycling myself and noticed that my regular cycling shorts roll down from my waist. Maybe the type of shorts...or my gutt ;-)
Regardless.....next pair of shorts ill get will be bibs!!!

i bought a pair after using shorts for years. they
are the most comfortable ive used they are team
quality and mine have no seams on chamois. the down
side of them is when its leak time, take off helmet,
jersey, then let down straps im glad this has only
happin once so far, these are the pair i bought

Bib shorts are cut low in the front by design and they stretch far enough to pull one out without ripping the suspenders. Unless you are wearing two size smaller than your normal size, you can pull up the bottom of the jersey then pull the front part of the bibs hard downwards and finish the job, not taking off anything. I find surprisingly many people who have used bibs many years still rolling up the leg of the shorts for the job.

By the way, this applies only to male riders.

I should have told you I already looked at the photo before I post my original message in this thread. Yours are not much different than mine. I also should have told you that I wear one size smaller bib shorts than my normal size, that's why I said "Unless you wear two size smaller".
    Here's the one I wear.

As long as yu keep saying "I know it's not going to work." before you even try it, which won't take two minutes of your time, you are only missing an opportunity to learn something new. It wasn't my intention to make you do something you are not willing to do but I thought it would help you. Sorry for my suggestion. Please disregard.

yup. all bibs i've got are cut like that. never had a problem w/ #1. it's stretch lycra for crack's sake!

if it's a tight fit, bending at the waist will help get the weasel out! 😉

LMAO, why order 1 size to small, strecth your bibs, and
bend half way over to psss, just let down your straps
if your gonna wear them over your shirt😄

where did i state that??? it will work, i did it once and
that told me thats not how its done (with mine) i had
to bend half way over and i thought they might rip
doing this enough, and besides after that stretch they
were more loose fit. perhaps wearing incorrect size
has differant results, but just let down your straps lol.
