Hello all, I am thinking about making the jump to a PowerTap. Probably an SL, but would love the 2.4 for it's wireless, BUT have read alot of negatives on the 2.4.
Which brings me to my question. Saris servicing of the PowerTaps. Can you send in your wheel when it needs fixing? OR do I have to disassemble my wheel and just send the hub if it needs servicing? What have most been doing?
People that have the 2.4 and are not having problems, please chime in with some positives reviews.

I've had mine about 2 weeks now. Not a single dropout or problem (yet). Note, i sell PTs (and SRMs) so caveat emptor. Additionally, i don't use the HR strap (so i've no real idea if that works).
You can send your hub back for servicing either as a complete wheel (i'd take the tyre and cassette etc off) or you could strip it down to just a hub.
No idea where you're located, but if you're in the UK, we handle the PTs for going back and can often give you a loaner PT -- because you'll sure miss the data if you're ever without it. (we also have the best UK prices)
I am in the US, otherwise I would take you up on that. I am thinking about going with Excel Sports Boulder since I have heard many good thing about their service & wheels.
I am still in research mode right now. I am trying to decide on wheels/options. I am 160lbs now with hopes/plans on loosing 15.
I am not a racer, just a data/power hungry weekend warrior. So I don't need a racing & training wheel, I want/need a all around wheel. Currently I have a Bontrager Race wheel with 24 cnt and that has stayed true and reliable.
# of spokes, for my weight, do I really need 32, or will 28 suffice??

I don't know Excel, so can't comment one way or the other. I would personally recommend www.wheelbuilder.com. The owner's advice is very good, and he builds wheels for very high level riders.
I would think that a 28 would be fine for your mass. Use something like a Mavic CXP33 or a Velocity Aerohead (i think it's called).
