Anyone heading out for BR on Sunday?? I've not been able to get out for ages but I am keen this weekend as I have got one of my mate's Bianchis on loan. He commutes to work about 12km or so basically along Beach Rd into Southbank and I have been telling him for ages that a single speed or fixie would be good for winter given that his ride is virtually flat. Anyway, I took the fixed cog off of my fixie and put on a free cog and we have done a bike swap for a week or so. He is now riding my steel Hillman with upside down bars that have been cut off to make cow horns and running 45/16 gearing - this obviously gives him a heap of street cred and from the sounds of it, he is nearly convinced that he should set one up for winter. He has three roadies - a Titanium Bianchi with 10spd Record and Carbon seat stays, an Aluminium Bianchi with 10spd Record (the one that he swapped with me), and a Steel Cecil Walker with 9spd Centaur and a triple on the front. I have almost got him convinced to get a flip-flop wheel built up for the CW so that he has the option of fixed and free.......another potential convert!!!
So basically, if it is not raining Sunday morning then I think I will head out for the BR.......will be good to get out on a decent ride again.

I'll probably be up for it, although I suspect I'll take the short route and turn down to Wattle Glen from K Ground. I haven't seen hills for about 2 months so I suspect I'm going to be in for some pain. 🙁
Darn, I miss those hills, in Sweden now I the biggest hill is prolly 50 m high, quite steep and somewhat hard but no comparison. Plus only get up to about 65 km/h on the downhill.
Count yourselves lucky for those beautiful hills that are so nice for cycling.

Sigh, nothing like cleaning up children's vomit at 4:00am (yuck). But if it happens again I don't think I'll be riding.

Gags
Great ride this morning. Weather was perfect, and Gags, Dutch and myself were all suitably underdone with training so we took it very casual out to St Andrews and back. The pace up Warrandyte was slow enough for us all to be talking and I thought we might go over 21 mins but came in at a respectable 18 mins (considering how much effort we were putting in).
BTW Dutch, the best time on cycle2max is Lama with 10:50. Maybe you should add your friend's time on her behalf to give the boys something to aim for 😉

Don't make me cry now, I invested heavily in that 10:50 so I wouldn't have to do that ugly TT run for a few years!! 🙂

(admittedly the world's No1 woman rider...)
LMAO! Good work dutchie and Nicole.
Hah. So lama, when's going to be your next attempt to retake the record to recovery your dignity? You wouldn't want the shame of being beaten by a girl!

Yeah I'd call you a big girl's blouse but evidently you're not up to that standard 🙂
Should we book an ambulance for Pigeon Rock next week when Lama destroys himself to take the title?
And I've got to say how much I'm loving my Christmas present Brooks saddle. I used to dread getting back on the saddle after coffee break. Today it was like sitting on a comfy chair. Mmmmmmmmm bliss. Now I need to buy one for my new commuter. 🙁
I'd like to review the 'tape' thanks. If she can bang out a solo/unassisted time like that (assuming no massive tail-wind), but still get rolled in B grade at Kew by a local rider within a week of the 'world cup' - there are questions that need to be raised. 🙄
However, if the time was done under similar conditions to me, then that is awesome. I'd never come close to that! 🙁

Around mid November, when I'm somewhere between races 🙂 Not beaten by a girl, beaten by a TEH LADIEE (no z)

So what was Kew just an easy E1 effort or something? It certainly didn't look like it...and if she was lying down then I feel somewhat cheated...promote the whole team to A-grade I say :p

Excellent, re-enforcements have arrived. I was going to summon your response on this one Ess, as you're the only other rider I know who has continually chipped away at this climb - and know its a ball breaker.
Hang on - that's the key - without balls, there is nothing that climb can break. Quick, someone book me an appointment with a surgeon.

Kew isn't worth taking drugs for, but King (Queen?) of that Mountain certainly is -- to beat the legendary Lama time by such a margin is definitely even worthy of putting one's professional career on the line.

I just find an unassisted 10:15 by a chick interesting...you sure she didn't start timing at the 2nd bus stop 🙂 Dutchie get that HRM file. Hats off to her if it was solo.
