Today the air is much, much better. Yesterday in my neighborhood visibility was four blocks or so.
Now it's mostly back to normal, thanks to onshore winds chasing the Santa Ana winds back to the
desert. You Phoenicians can expect some smoke any time now...

small detail), but their home was untouched and all is back to normal.

Big time! Air's been too bad to do any "reconnaissance" missions, but almost every local ride we do
has been scorched badly. Trails are probably trashed with ash, too.

Yep, almost all of the ones we ride regularly got torched.

these first two are from Mission Trails regional park. this is the south side of the park so
everything to the north got torched, which is about 95% of the park. These photos were taken right
outside the former Soul Cycles shop run by Mr. Miles D. Todd.

these next two are of an area North of Mission Trails called Sycamore Canyon. This is just the
trailhead but since the fire came from teh right and the trail goes to the right my guess is most of
the canyon is burned as well.

we heard rumors that we also lost Anderson Truck Trail and the Cuyamaca Grand Loop is probably gone
too. Noble Canyon may be next but I think they've got a good handle on the fire in that area.

Mission Trails had people standing at the trailheads to keep people out. I'm sure the local areas
will be closed for some time and it's going to be awfully stinkin for a good long while. it still
smelled pretty bad at Martha's for several weeks after teh fire out there and it was small. Of
course, now it's going to be that much worse since the rest of the park burned too

if you recall, one of my favorite haunts has a small fire. Riding post inferno I have the following
observations:

The way it looks radically changes. The trail surface is going to be fine dust and ash, highly
susceptible to erosion. It's not fun to ride through either as it gets in your nose and the ash
burns. It's really sad to see how bad the trail has eroded already from people cutting the corners.

A good rain will get the surface settled. Right away you will have to deal with clearing deadfall,
and who knows how many fireroads/breaks were plowed in right over the trails.

I'm cool. No fire here in the Los Angeles harbor area, just hella smoke at times. There's so many
oil refineries around my area that if a fire ever did break out, you'd probably hear the explosions
on the east coast :^ (

Looks like the weather has finally turned the corner. Some nice rain like clouds have now moved into
the fire areas, and they're predicting a possibility of some light rain this weekend.

This is the craziest, so called, natural disaster I've ever witnessed. I hope I never have to
witness it again. I have a friend who works a couple of blocks away from Snow Summit in Big Bear.
She's since evacuated the area along with tens of thousands of other people.

Romic just shipped out my spring for my Turner yesterday. Today, I beleive they've been evacuated
too because they are in Hysperia.

I spoke with another girl this morning near the Mexican border. A neighbor of her's went back to
their house today. It was gone and their horses were laying on ground, barbequed, still smoldering.

I just heard a report on the radio that some earth quakes have been reported. I'm just waiting for
the monsoon this winter and the subsequent massive mud flows. It's the end...
