  1. Not that anyone really cares, but thought I'd say this anyway because I thought it was interesting.
I sell Bicycle Hub Motors and my original intent was to sell to ONLY bent owners. Since July I have
sold 30 Hub Motors to 26 recumbent owners (many on ARBR). The weird part is NOT a single RANS owner
will allow his/her rear dropouts widened X ONLY 2mm to accept the 12mm diam. Hub Motor Axle....NOT
one. They say they love their RANS too much to mess with it even slightly. The HP Velotecknik S,M.,4
TerraTrikes, several EZ-3s, EZ-1sc, Linear, Greenspeed, Robert Stein, GRR, Optima Baron and Rider,
M5, Sinner, Trice, Baccetta and one BikeE....No Problem, BUT a RANS (no bloody way).

I find this interesting about the loyality owners have for their RANS.

    Other possibilities :
    - RANS owners in general have a genetic profile that hold them from dealing with your company (did
you notice, not everyone gets personal ;-)
    - RANS owners bought their bike for excersize
    - RANS bikes is optimized to an extend that it can't hold up if the rear dropouts is modified

(only joking) Torben - I'd cut my frame in halfes, if I had a reason - Scheel

  3. Joshua, Don't even think about it. There is a curse on anyone who would defile a RANS frame or ride
a defiled frame. Kind of like the "Mummies Curse". No one knows exactly what evil will befall such
hapless individuals. Everyone is too scared to risk it.

They would get plenty if the battery ran dry. :-)

  5. 2 RANS owners who did buy the Hub Motors, went out and bought MTBs so they could ride at 35 mph
(without) touching their RANS...I suspect they talk with and sleep with their bents.

I mentioned this observation yesterday with my local bent dealer who sells RANS bents & he theorized
the reason might be...RANS owners will resell their bents more frequently to get the next RANS model
and it was blasphemy to injure a bent you plan to sell while still under warranty.

The other bents are for more "longterm" ownership. "Torben Scheel" <[email hidden]> wrote

  6. Maybe he is trying to sell more motors...and this is a clever way to advertise. Just
    thinking out loud.

  7. You Think? The deal I had with the manufacturer was I sell at cost, but only to bent owners...DF
owners pay more. End result was 26 of 30 sales went to bent owners. I am ending my retail career
Dec.31 to go wholesale and YES I have already signed up Recumbent Dealers in the USA and a coouple
of bent manufacturers will offer bents with the Hub Motors. This is what I predicted 3 years ago in
this Newsgroup...ONLY way to get people out of the cars was give them a viable alternative...a bent
    with a 35->40 mph E-Motor.

...And with a lifetime frame warranty, we know how long it'll be until they (including me) are
willing to do the dastardly deed. I agree: better to do it to a cheap MTB.
