Dura Ace 12 speed EDA

Are you sure about that? Word from some of the Euros who've seen the EDA and from others in touch with the Fishing Reel Company is that they road tested, in Europe, some 12 speed cassettes but ended up binning the idea. There are some pics of the electric system as used by Rabobank here.

Granted, I'm not a Shimano user, but the idea of an electric system from either Group S or the Eyetalian Group isn't appealing to me. However, it does seem definite--according to a fair number of sources, now--that 2008 might see the debut of electric Dura Ace. There's even the suggestion that there won't be a mechanical version of Dura Ace.

A little more information from a very reliable source.

It was originally planned that EDA would come in the spring of 08, with the new DA coming for interbike 07. Now it seems that the roles have reversed. EDA is expected to be available at Interbike next year, with new 08 DA coming just behind it.

It is not a wireless system.

Battery is mounted above the frt mech, and lasts for about 1500 miles, recharges in 1 hour.

Frt mech is rapid rise, combined with a servo. The combination of the two makes front shifting nearly instaneous and silent, even under full load. I'm told that the front shifting happens quicker than the current rear mech.

Frt mech has 10 trim positions, and trims itself automatically each time the rear mech is shifted.

Single trigger action. A pivot has been put into the middle of the current small paddle. Touch the top of the finger mark on the paddle and shift up, touch the bottom and shift down. Virtually no movement of the paddle is required to shift.

LCD screen has been backlit so that it is visible at night.

Weight on the current version of the prototype is almost identical to current DA. Hopefully the weight will drop below the weight of the current DA. It's expected that some of the components from 08 standard DA will be incorporated to drop the weight.
