  1. okay...time for a real post from me. i own a trek road bike. i always feel as though i am crunched, i'd guess you'd say-tight through chest area, probably why i don't last long. i am wondering would getting wider bars help this?? i love my bike and want to ride it more, but are there other alternatives?? what about raising the rear-seat...or perhaps the bars?? i want to be able to ride like i did when i had my gt force....25 miles easy a day w/o feeling tired or wornout. any help?? hope to hear from ya'll! later

    dan

  2. It could be something else, such as the stem length

Could you post some photos of you on the bike

  3. Why not just measure your chest up and compare that with your bar width. The classic teaching is that they should match.

I presume you no longer have your GT, but if you do, then take it for a spin and see how you feel ...

If you feel "better" after riding your GT, then MEASURE everything about it ... COMPARE those measurements with the measurments of your Trek, particularly the handlebar width AND the width between the brake levers.

Different shops prep bikes differently, and the shop which prepped your Trek may not have done a good job -- in fitting the bike TO-and-FOR YOU, too! --and, that poor prep (e.g., brake pads rubbing the rims) could be aggravating your riding.

FWIW. Wider bars may indeed help you, as you suspect; but, the stem may be too short, as noted. My limited observation is that wider bars than a "traditional fitting" would suggest are become more prevalent AMONGST "TOUR" RIDERS ...
