Assuming it's a serious question, he came to California to meet his new team
and see how they work together. If you were expecting him to show his stuff,
you were mistaken. This race is all about Levi, and Basso's not going to do
anything to mess that up. Basso has only one real focus this year (although
he claims two). He wants to make sure he's got a team that's ready to die
for him if need be, when the time comes. No way is he going to ruffle
feathers right now.--Mike-- Chain Reaction Bicycles

Levi said in today's press conf that Basso did what he was asked to
do, going up the climb pretty far. Hincapie apparently had to ask a
couple of times for Basso to slow down and Levi himself said he was
feeling the pace.To see how it goes, I have made the audio of today's press conf
available:http://www.procyclingpress.com/racereports/racereports-noframe.html
(voigt is at http://www.procyclingpress.com/rennberichte/racereports-noframe.html)
All I ask is that you download it rather than play it directly off the
server.thanks,

Hm. How does downloading (versus on-page playback) affect the server
load?I'm curious because I fancy myself a media/web dilettante kind of guy,
and I had never even considered that their might be server issues.Aren't you sending the same bits either way?

BUT regardless of what some in the US would like to think, this is a
multi day stage race in February. Thesze Euros love to come to the US
to race/train but this is not on par with any European race. Reminds
me of Nissan Classic, nice race but really prep for other European
races. -

Download = once per person. Stream = maybe multiple times and/or

reverse is probably what one would perfer.Download = "send once as fast as possible."
Stream = "slow down the bits to just fast enough so more people can
enjoy simultaneously."Streaming scales better.

Yeah, but the link in question doesn't seem to be, by the strictest
definition, streaming. It's the same set of bits: no quality (source
bandwidth of the data) degradation is possible, as in true streaming.Properly speaking, this is what is sometimes called a "fast start"
video, as the player can start playing it before the movie is entirely
downloaded. But if the load is high, it just pauses until it buffers
enough bits to keep playing. Most players are clever enough that they try not to start playing until
they've buffered enough bits that if the current download rate holds,
they'll get all the bits before the video ends. Sometimes that's not the
case, and then they usually pause until, once again, they think they've
got enough of a headstart not to pause...That behaviour is clever, but it's not strictly streaming, which uses a
clever server to send bits as catch can, with the idea that it's better
to see crappy video on time than the full video later.--

re-retrieving bits. Only people who return to the file after exiting the
page (and after it has dumped out of their browser cache) really
double-dip on the server. But that's the best explanation so far.

Hi,
just my cent, for the group.
Streaming can be very unexpensive using our product.
VideoVista its' true streaming without dedicated server; you have to
put the video on a webserver and, it's easy, it plays.regards

see in Europe. And we just may get there. I'm beginning to believe. Never
thought we had a chance until just recently. It just could happen.--Mike Jacoubowsky

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051915/I'll have to see that (Jacobowsky and the Colonel) someday. My last name
seems to be one of those where I come across people who swear they've come
across someone, somewhere, with the same (or similar) name... but I've never
found them in any searches I've done. I have a feeling it's people who have
seen or heard of that movie.--Mike (Jacoubowsky)-- Chain Reaction Bicycles

Redwood City & Los Altos, CA USAIt's all about money, and I don't think as a sport, it will be on par
with the interest shown in Europe. Unless the advertisers can show
that many will watch cycling in the US, in May, I don't think it's
ever going to happen. W/o an American star being successful in big
euro races, that can translate to that guy/team racing with the Euro
teams in the US...don't see it. Ask any non cyclist who Ivan Basso is,
see if they know. -

claiming to have the largest prizelist behind the Tour de France. I don't
know if that is still the case, but if it is, it still hasn't brought in the
biggest riders. I'm sure part of that is due to it's placement on the
calendar and part due to travel issues. Regardless, the money hasn't been
enough of a factor to draw many top names to Malaysia. Many more competed in
Qatar, despite the race courses being more selective and challenging in
Malaysia. It's roughly 4600 km and a three hour time difference from
Frankfurt, Germany to Doha, Qatar, whereas it is roughly 10,000 km and a 7
hour time difference from Frankfurt to Kuala Lumpur.Speaking of money, is it considered to be in poor manners internationally to
breakdown the prizelist?
