Um, they all work. Get them at any bike shop. Some people swear by certain socks. To me they're just socks. Thicker if it's cold out, thinner if it's warm. 🙂

You don't get smelly feet cycling - far too much air flow through the shoes - added benefit. If you do, get better shoes !

I like the Chicago city flag on mine but neuyawkers can't get 'em there. My other fave is my prettygirl socks from Moab cyclery.

otherwise: wool in winter, cotten in summer. If still confused go with rayon in Spring and dacron in Fall. Other synthetics are a matter of personal taste.

For summer socks you should go synthetic. Cotton just keeps soaking up the sweat. Here in South Africa we have a specialist company called Falke that makes great socks for about $3 a pair. I don't know if you get them there.

In the summer I like CoolMax; in the winter it's a tossup between SmartWool and...uh...[censored], I forget, some other Merino wool hiking-type sock. The *only* one I buy locally (in NYC) is the one whose name I forget, I get them at Modell's Sporting Goods in Herald Square. The CoolMax I get from Performance, & the SmartWool I get from Sierra Trading Post...and they're both *WAY* cheaper than anything the LBS stocks.

Get what ever is comfy. fancy bike socks won't make you faster no matter what the sock guy ad says.

Cotton seems to be fine in Spring and Fall if you have very well ventilated mountain shoes like me. It just doesn't soak through and it's cheaper to buy and easier to wash. If there's enough air going over cotton socks they just don't soak through.

+1 coolmax, or anything that keep your feet dry is good especially in the summer.

Cotton socks have been fine for me, except in the rain. That squishy wet feeling of wet socks is hard to bear. But I doubt that CoolMax can relieve this problem given the same environmental condition.

I just use black cotton socks for most of the year. Never had a problem with sweaty feet. The black is nice when you get caught in the rain. White socks turn an impossible to wash out gray from all the grime that gets kicked up by the front wheel when its raining.

In chilly weather I switch to something like Stormsocks.
