3 - 2 = 1Triples give you a potentially easier climbing gear ratio with it's granny gear small ring. Compact double seem to have become the latest replacement trend for triples. Personally, doubles have sufficied me for years. If I need a better climbing gear I just use a different cassette. A traditional double is a 53/39 combination whereas a triple is usually set up as 52/42/30.
