Hi this is my first go at posting somthing on here.
I am thinking of buying a set of Zipp 606 wheels for TTs I have a corima disk for the rear when it's not windy, I need some advice on what wheels to go for example Mavic cosmic carbon or Zipp or Easton tempest 11s or maybe corima, I quiite fancy the Zipp 606s but have been hearing a few bad things about the bearings, I live in Scotland which is not the dryest place on earth. I am heavier than the average cyclist at 90 to 95 KG so was planning on the Clydsdale version. Due to the considerable investment in a good set of wheels I want to get the right ones also not sure weather to go for Clinchers or tubs?
This is going to be my 3rd year at racing TTs so I am fairly new to it Can anybody help

If you haven't already, I would suggest you try searching this category for previous postings pertaining to Zipp wheels. There should be a great amount of info pertaining to them already posted...

I really think you would be happier with the 404s. They are better all around time trial wheels and can handle windy conditions better. If the course is not windy, then the slightly deeper rear wheel is useless as you are better off running a carbon disc on the rear.

Thanks for the replys, I have a carbon disc for the rear so would mainly only be using the front Zipp 404 or 606 unless the course was either very hilly or windy, quite a few of our TT courses are quite hilly. I thought the 606 would be a faster front due to the deeper section though not as deep as the 808 which would only be good on flat calm days? My wife has taken a likeing to my mavic cosmic carbones so I am needing a replacment ? thje 404s would be similar I spose. -

The 606s are just a combination of a 404 front, and 808 rear, so the front isn't deeper than a 404 - it's exactly the same but with a 606 sticker on it

Thanks for the info, sounds like the 404s are the way to go as the 606s might not be as good for the hilly or the windy days. have you heard much about the bearings and their reliability?

404s would be perfect for hilly/windy events. The 58mm depth is more than enough and they'll be a touch lighter too
'fraid I can't help with the bearings, but don't worry about getting ceramic bearings etc. as all of the benefits and energy saved disappears under load anyway
