    SENATOR DURBIN'S AMERICAN HEALTH CRISIS

PREFACE: Below this preface is an article that I have e-mailed to virtually every daily newspaper
and many community weeklies, also to at least 20 am radio stations per state and most every local
    network affiliate.

I am calling for readers, listeners and viewers to get Senator Durbin's Senate Bill
722, which would effectively make illegal virtually all health foods, supplements etc
into newspapers, talk shows and news broadcasts until every Senator is on record as
opposing this financial and lethal to millions bill.

The article clearly elaborates on not just athletes' use of health foods but also
the millions of people with diseases kept alive by supplements years or decades
longer than standard medical treatments-with much less side effects. Also, about the
deaths that would be involved in the inevitable black market of a demand of ten
    million users.

Health food users should cancel their newspapers subscriptions, contact stores that
sell supplements and the daily paper if their newspaper won't champion the cause
against Senator Durbin. Either by publishing the below article, publishing ones by
    local readers or editorialists.

This bill's enactment would also lead to billions of tax dollars in futile enforcement
of banning something or extreme benefit to society. Thus, the amount of benefits of
getting every Senator to publicly and legislatively oppose Senate Bill 722
unfathomably outweighs the detriment of excessive posting to newsgroups. I also
encourage massive e-forwarding the below article, until the mainstream media can't
    ignore this potential fatal legislation.

Calling in radio shows while on-air would also be effective.

    THE ARTICLE/LETTER:

"These statements have not been evaluated by The Food and Drug Administration. This product is not
intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease."

For 9 years , since the Dietary Supplement Health Act of 1994, that absurd disclaimer has been
mandated by THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION on any Nutritional Supplement or health food..

About ten million Americans have ignored the disclaimer and have indeed prevented getting many
diseases and ailments, along with suureal athletic enhancement.

Illinois Senator Richard Durbin's sponsored bill S. 722, if passed, would create an American
Health Crisis worse than AIDS, virtually eliminating nutritional supplements.

The prices of supplements if regulated would increase. For example, a present $2.00 container
    of 100 tablets, 500 mgs. Vitamin C would be $20.00. A $7.00 present container of 50 ct.
Ginseng Complex would become a $80-$100 major purchase.

Such a cost-driven price increase would financially prevent all but the most wealthy (who
can afford health insurance) from obtaining the ounce of prevention supplements provide.
Leaving tax-payers with a ton of cure ,curing low income supplement users.

That is, until everything is eliminated due to the S. 722 procedure of banning a supplement if
even one complaint of ill effects is reported to The FDA.

Despite the 1994 DSHEA ruling, supplements and herbs have provided health benefits for
hundreds to thousands of years. If any change is needed it's abolishing the government
    mandated disclaimer.

Evolving through the last quarter century or so, doctors are encouraging patients to take
nutritional supplements, especially a month or so before surgery.

While most medications (particular for AIDS) have extreme side effects worse than the
diseases symptoms, the only significant side effect of what is called "megadosing"
(consuming obsessive amounts of nutritional supplements) is excessive urination and or
    defecation.

Although 60% of supplement usage is for athletic enhancement, 40% is for disease prevention
and overall health. Nationally, possibly up to a million people with incurable diseases,
given short life spans, live years or decades beyond their predicted deaths replacing
traditional medications with supplements. Most of them are assisted in their treatment
    choice by doctors.

Those self healers would create a demand for black market supplements, complete with all
the massive death associated with crime. Along with billions of tax dollars being spent
prohibiting what is America's most beneficial commercial product.

Supplements provide nutrients (mostly herbs) in needed amounts simply not obtainable in
foods. For example, one would have to consume a car full of peanuts to equal the Vitamin E
in a single 400 I.U Mixed Tocopherols softgel

Many boxes of Total Cereal would be needed to equal the Vitamin B's of one B-50
    Complex capsule.

The government decided extremely low USRDA's are an epitome of the FDA's incompetence
    regarding America's health.

There are thousands of herbs (only a hundred or so readily available) which provide immune
enhancement critical for such diseases as HIV et al. Even the common cold or flu can be lessened
with Vitamin C, Bioflavanoids and Echenecea.

The one in a thousand harmful concoctions like Ephedera are quickly banished by
consumerism with probably capitalism's most educated consumers. Snake-oil products are
quickly off the shelf due to lack of demand.

About ten million supplement users for years, decades or life extensively research before
spending (for example) $12 on a 50 ct of Horse Chestnut. Virtually everyone who starts
supplements for health and or athletics continues eternally. A small percent don't
benefit. An infinitesimal amount which Senator Durbin is trying to protect get worse.

While there are millions of cases of Natural Healing successes and thousands of athletic
enhancement cases, there are no statistics kept on rare megadosing problems.

Those with normal discretionary income simply can't afford the level of megadosing needed
for the only risk of supplement taking-kidney damage due to the extreme urination-which
takes (even with sales) at least $7,000 annually for many years.

Finances and the social/work restraints of excessive urination prevents kidney damage
    years before possible.

Senator Durbin's bill, if passed, would create initial giveaway sales and heath food stores
closings. Initially, sales of pre-Durbin $20 supplements would be liquidated at $1,leading
to supplement users stock piling. That is, before manufacturers go out of business.

After the stockpiles are depleted, and the one in a million abuser reports a case to THE
FDA eventually banning all supplements, mass sickness will ensue. America will have a
nutritional deficiency similar to third world countries.

For the first time in modern America, ten million supplement users and the entire
country will go from having everything needed for health and athletics to primitive
    nutritional intake sources.

No more MSN/Glucosamine for sore joints. No more Zinc Lozenges for sore throats. No more
Calcium for Osteoporosis. No more anything for anything. Just a country subject to
getting sick at the cost of billions of dollars public for subsidized health care of
those Post Durbin former supplement users.

And probably millions with diseases which supplements lessen the symptons ,will die.
All because Senator Durbin sponsored a bill which would make AIDS comparatively look
not so bad. And prevent those with AIDS from feeling any better

  2. With all due respect that sounds like a rant.

Basically, I probably agree with you but it was so confusing and boring to read that I only got
    about half way through it.

My suggestion would be to tone it down a little and shorten it a lot.

    Kind regards.

    Lewis.

Anyone who wants to read it, go to thomas.loc.govthomas.loc.gov and enter s.722 to pull it up.

Frankly, I don't see the real problem - frankly, the industry in question is pretty much
unregulated, and I have no problem with a little more accountability on the manufacturer's part.

Ditto, some credibility via testing or oversight would be the best thing that ever happened to this
"industry". As it is today I can put anything in a gellcap, make any claim I desire, and if I phrase
the advertising right there is nothing anyone can do when they finally find that all those glorious
claims are totally false. If on the other hand there were products out there that were proven, from
double blind testing etc. to be effective, imagine how they would sell. Problem is today however
that most of that [censored] advertised is just that.

  5. Do you work in the industry?

DHSEA was/is a good idea, but the results have been that people are wasting huge sums of money
buying stuff that does not work and in some cases has been proven in well-controlled studies
    not to work.

Some of the items on the shelves are outright dangerous for some people taking them.

As a libertarian, I am for allowing everything but at the same time making claims that are not
    factual should be actionable.

    Vitamins were available before DSHEA.

  6. The only thing that is really health food is... well... food!!! You know... fruits, veggies,
sprouts, etc.? "Supplements" are not food... and in many cases they are nothing more than snake oil.
