I'm thinking about a few days touring around the Channel Islands in March, I'm particularly interested in Sark as a nice opportunity to get away from those pesky motor vehicles - and would be really interested to hear from anybody who's visited.
In particular, can you bring your bike to Sark on the boat from Guernsey? I think I remember reading that you can't, but I'm not sure I remember correctly, and that information would have been quite old anyway...
I'd also be interested in map recommendations for the Channel Islands, OS don't seem to cover them.

Bikes were allowed on then, plus there was bike hire.
Blimey - the year I was born 🙂 That's encouraging to hear, Pete - I hope they haven't changed it since then, of course I'd welcome information from anybody who's been more recently.

Guernsey - spent a fortnight there with some friends who'd moved out there. If you like candle shops and jewelry shops then you'll be in heaven. The roads are not well sign posted and we spent a long time looking for some of the historical sites such as the underground German hospital and gave up once or twice. The day that we found it, it was shut. Sark is small enough walk around without availing oneself of two wheeled transport besides walking will give you a chance to spread out the day's activities - one a bike you'll do it all in an hour :-)
Sark is really the place to be if you want to do nothing. It operates a feudal system which, if it hasn't still changed recently gives the inheritance rights of females a raw deal plus the monsignor (head honcho of Sark) gets a cut of all property deals and wills if I recall correctly. Even the Barclay twins, as powerful as they are, had to cough up despite the hiring of a battalion of QCs to fight against having to shell out to the monsignor.
Been there and done it - I won't be going back for seconds. Both places are forgettable. I probably don't have the mindset that can enjoy the Islands.

I had a reply from the lady at the shipping company, who told me they can't carry bikes - so I'll probably make Sark a day trip and spend more time exploring the other islands.
