The thread about CTC's website for reporting obstructions on trails
reminded me there's a route near me which is shown on the OS explorer
maps as being an off road track for cyclists and it's a nice ride
being along an old railway formation. However half way along it has
been blocked (deliberately) with branches and barbed wire although if
you were careful you could still get around. Interestingly though,
the OS landranger (pink) maps show it as national cycle route 6 and as
a dead end (it's not actually signed as such) and the local council do
not have it listed as a right of way.
I rode along there today and it has had a piece of high green railing
put across so nobody can get through at all.
I've reported it to the council, but as it's been blocked for some
year and it's not a right of way I don't think there's much they can
do about it. Should I report it to Sustrans as it would be an
excellent cycle route if you could get all the way along, but they
might not be interested as I don't think the accessible bit really is
one of their routes?
