  1. Standings after Day Five, the penultimate night are now on the site.

The bad news of the night was that Michael Sanstod was on the sick list. But the good news is that
he should be OK for the finale tomorrow (Saturday) night.

Sandstod's partner, Jimmi Madsen, is continuing alone, but is only contesting the individual events.

And finally Villa-Quaranta managed to climb out of the dog-house and into eleventh spot by gaining
    back a few laps.

It just seems sad that Villa, who won the event last year when partnered by Silvio Martinelli,
    should be twenty-two laps down.

Things are hotting up at the top of the leader-board with three Pairs on same lap and only two
points separating the leading two pairs.

Gilmore-McGrory now lead Risi-Betschart, 287 points to 285 and this should make for an exciting
    final night.

  2. I wonder if after six days it is going to come down to an exciting finish in the last few laps of
    the last race?

The same old act every six-day for almost 100 years, boring!!! I think people are catching on and
that is why there are only a handful of these events left.

Wouldn't it be cool if they raced absolutely for real for just one of these events.

Six-days are the Euro version of WWF.

    At least NASCAR is real.

They have it mixed up, I saw the thing on tv last night: switch Slippens/Stam and Risi/Betschart.

Things come and go, the fad cycle in Europe appears to have a far longer period than in the USA,
where what's hot today is avoided by the next generation.

NASCAR has been around for ages. Why did it suddenly surge to the top? The same applies to 'Pro'
wrestling (Check out Requiem for a Heavyweight sometime) It's all fad. Pro wrestling is on its way
back down to obscurity, at some point NASCAR will be, too. Sadly, bicycle racing was a huge sport
pre-WW2 in the USA and faded, it's hot again thanks to USPS and Lance Armstrong, but where will it
be in 3 or 4 years?

Really? How many major sponsors have you seen dropping out of NASCAR? They have a waiting list of
sponsors looking to put their names on cars. NASCAR has the #1 fan loyalty to sponsor return of any
sport anywhere and it surpassed all sports as the #1 spectator sport in the world. Whether you like
the sport or not NASCAR has always grown, never slumped and still continues to grow today.

I followed NASCAR, briefly back in the 80's, when it was like religion in the southeast. IMHO it
hasn't peaked, yet, but with all things in the USA, it will and it's just a matter of time.

I hear that it's the #1 spectator sport, but it's hard to actually believe it outpaces baseball
    or soccer.
