I was in a Halfords at the weekend looking for a new car seat for our rapidly growing mini-Luggage, and wandered past the Bike Hut section. I was surprised and rather cheesed off to find a placard commenting that statstics _provided by the BMA_ showed that a bit of polystyrene could prevent 86% of head injuries.
I thought we'd been through this about Halfords before, and they'd agreed to remove this bogus statstic, but I can't find it in Google. I was also concerned that they are claiming the 86% figure came from the BMA. I didn't think they'd actually been daft enough to endorse this.
In the end, I didn't take it up with them because (a) from their comments to other customers, the oiks on the shop floor didn't seem to have much of a clue about bikes, let alone statistics, and (b) I was already ranting to otherstaff about the stupidity of not having anyone trained to do car seat fitting available on a busy Saturday!

Suggest contacting cyclehelmets.org and asking for advice. I imagine it would be a good idea to make a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority and to the BMA and Halfords about this.
