Back Tire Computer

Some wireless units have a transmitter range that is pretty limited, and may not work well from the back wheel. But, if you get a model that also has a second wireless transmitter for cadence, it will typically be designed for more separation between the transmitters and the computer (since the mounting points for both a rear wheel transmitter and a cadence transmitter will typically both be on the chain-stay).

The Cat-eye Astrale was the best wired choice that I found when I was researching things - with both wired cadence and rear-wheel speed, ideal for putting your bike on a trainer stand.

I have a Sigma Sport 1200 with a rear wheel cable kit and it works fine on the trainer. Plus it attaches with heavy black rubber bands (no hardware or electrical ties) so installing and removing is a breeze.

I have both the Sigma (1600) and Cateye Astrale8. I like the Sigma better as the number size is larger, I can read the speed and cadence easily. The Sigma also indicates when you are riding faster or slower than your avg spd, a feature I like as that is a motivation to push myself.

I find myself trying hard to read the cadence numbers on the Cateye. Fitting the Sigma is a breeze. The Cateye uses many cable ties.

For me I would get the Sigma. However the rear wheel cabling is probably an option, which might add to the total cost of the computer.

I love my sigma BC1606L but couldn't be bothered getting the long wire kit. Besides, you have to remember that no matter what setting your trainer is on, 1km on the trainer does not equal 1 on the road.

I have a sigma with the rear wheel kit, easy to put on and take off...

I like my Cateye 300 series (300CDW or something ) It is wireless , with the dual transmmitter for cadence and speed. I like the uncluttered front end this way. The only dislike is the cadence window is blue and hard to see with sunglasses.
