Right from the start I always assumed motorists either haven't seen me, or,
are out to run me off the road. That way one survives, but I think you
already know this.Re Adelaide: Nothing you can do except petition Adelaide
council to provide cycle-ways and to change the rules so there is a
marshalling yard where all the cars stop, park and the cyclists ride from
there to the start.

In the country "city" where I live, cycleways have been road-marked on all
the main thoroughfares. It's not that hard provided there is enough
road-width to start with..

Right from the start I always assumed motorists either haven't seen me,
or,

As a cyclist there are always two trains of thought in your mind. Firstly,
the legal "I'm legally a vehicle too, therefore that truck doing 100 clicks
should slow down to 30 until the oncoming has subsided and he can get
around.

Then there is the logical "The truck is very big. I am very small. I will
move 1m onto the gravel shoulder and allow him to pass"

I normally listen to the logical train of thought. Which is why I'm still
here I reckon...

unfortunalty not many of the "Sporting" cyclists fraternity seems to

Tell that to the [censored] who totally failed to even slow down at the
bottom of the hill this morning, let alone allow right of way. He was
close enough when he roared across my bows for me to scream, `Give Way,
F---wit'. He looked somewhat surprised.
A few minutes later, another twerp blithely pulled out directly in front
of me (no indicators of course) less than 50 metres from the site of the
first incident, this time headed east. I restricted my comment this time
to `Yeah?', to which he at least said sorry when he realised his oversight.
These total pillocks have 1.5 tonnes of high-speed to kill you with.

RDU promotes cycling as a competitive sport in South Australia. South
Australia needs all the help it can get to attract money into the
economy which has barely improved in the last 50 years (notwithstanding
the federal government's attempts to prop up the state industry with car
and ship manufacture).
If you think motorists in Adelaide are bad then you have not cycled much
in Sydney. I would love to have the wide roads and low traffic volumes
that you have. My extensive experiences with cycling in Adelaide is that
it is vastly better than Sydney or Brisbane. Having said that, it does
depend on which suburbs/areas of these cities that you ride in.
Motorists can be good or bad in every city and town. As a cyclist who is
intent on living for a lot longer you need to assess and anticipate
motorists' actions.

I find you statement strange: "As a motorist I find it annoying ..." Why
not get out of the car and on to the bike then?

If I lived at McLaren Vale and wanted to see the race in Tanunda then I
might throw the bike on the rack so I could park the car in Gawler and
ride from there. Why shouldn't I? You do not have traffic jams in
Adelaide. The roads are wide enough not to impede your cycling progress
so I suggest you should be happy that people are taking an interest in
cycling (both watching and participating).

If you are not happy with having the TDU in Adelaide then send it to
Sydney but I think you are incredibly lucky.

Clipsal 500 - I have to agree with you about that one. A waste of time
and money.

So you were annoyed by motorists!
I drove to Tanunda & Handorf for the Vet's Classic races.
A 9:30 start so I got to experience the morning commuters.
For the Anzac Highway leg, I would have been faster on the bike.
So why so many cars where a bike is faster?
