mavic Ksyrium ES

I bought a pair for everyday use and I ride similar distance to you in the summer. Unfortunately, I only got mine in late Nov, so I don't have enough experience to comment on maintenance. I haven't had a problem after 500 km, before winter hit.

I believe the problem you are referring to relates to the bushing(s) used in the freehub body ... this is apparently true in almost all (if not all) MAVIC rear wheels.

The more you freewheel/coast, the more maintenance (i.e., disassembly & lubrication) the hub will require.

Any idea if this freehub body bushing issue pertains to Ksyrium SL's and/or Ksyrium Elite's also? Or is it just an issue with the ES?

It was my understanding that the problem was first (?) recognized (or, acknowledged) with the Ksyrium SSC SL ... and, that the SAME freehub body (whether having the Shimano or Campagnolo compatible spline pattern outer body) is used on all MAVIC rear wheels ...

By chance (?), I happened to read about the problem AFTER selling my pair of SSC SL wheels which only had about 2000 miles on them (a couple of years ago ... which is why the not-yet-experienced-potential maintenance "problem" remains locked in my memory), so I don't know if what was true then has been addressed/remedied OR persists.

Sorry I can't be more up to date on the info ...

OK. Thats it. Someone needs to sticky a thread concerning Mavic wheels. There are 4 threads, FOUR THREADS, on this page alone concerning whether someone should get mavics, what mavics are like, how good they are etc. I know they are excellent marketers but I think it could save this site 5% of its bandwidth (or whatever its called), if not more, if we were to create a universal mavic thread, stickied at the top in bold. I also know there is a search function but not that many people can be bothered to use it.

You will not have any more problem with your Mavics than any other wheel. At a point every wheel will need some work. The ES and SL are very good wheels and 3000 miles a year will not hurt them. I have read where people have put 30,000 miles on them and not broken a spoke. Yes I am sure there are some lemons out there but....like everything else in the world....but get your ES and enjoy.
