Hello everyone this is my first time posting. Here's a quick intro about me. I'm 26 and I've been riding for almost 2 years, and i ride an '04 Specialized Allez 105 groupo. I was given an old Cannondale Criterium Series frame. Now who ever had the frame before me decided to grind down the hanger for the rear deraileur. I assume the hanger was broken. My question is what are my options with the frame? I can't use a singulator because there is no way to mount it since there is no hanger. Is my only option to make it a single speed with a freewheel? If so then what size gear should i run in the back and what chainring in the front? Like i mentioned earlier I'm not a pro, i ride for fun and to get in shape (however i started training for the FurnaceCreek 508 for 2008, thats my goal) I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Although it looks a little beat up, that's a neat-looking frame (I'm partial to white!). If you don't mind spending a little money, how about building up a rear wheel with an eccentric hub - that way you can have a regular fixie or singlespeed flip-flop hub without resorting to the singleator. I think White Industries and Phil Wood both make pretty good eccentrics. Also, that way you can just put on a regular track crank, or get the proper bolts for the crank that's already on there, to use with a single chainring. That should make getting the chainline correct fairly easy. You can probably find everything you need at Harris Cyclery.

I'v got a nice easy suggestion. get a shimano Hone setup. there made for mountain bikes but offer great shifting proformance. The derailer on a hone setup bolts to the hub axel. it requires a bolt on rear hub. basically the axel would stick out the derailleur side about 15 mm and the deraileur slides over, followed by the nut. Campagnolo make a 9 speed shifter/brake lever that would make the whole thing work. WOW all of your suggestions were awesome, now its got me thinking about how i want to build it up, should i keep it all original matching components for that year, or a flat bar commuter, sorta like a Cannondale Badboy, or a sleeper, or even a single speed. Well i greatly appreciate your suggestions thank you.
