the bike is a Bridgstone rb-2 14 speed with rsx sti shifters and shimano 400 ex exage front and rear derailers. the problem is i cant get the chain to shift from small to big chain ring without rubbing the front derailer. the shifters are good, the cables are good, the chainline is good, the rear wheel is centered, the 2 adjustment screws on the front der. are set accordingly as i physically pull the front der. cable. im thinking the f. der. got wacked and is now too close to the chainring. does anybody have an idea what may be wrong?

Sounds like a hi limit scerw or derailer alignment problem.
