Hi all,
Have been wondering recently about cleat positioning. I normally use the traditional ball of the foot over the pedal axle approximation. I have heard recently people advocating moving the cleat further back on the shoe, placing the ball further in front of the pedal axle? What are people's thoughts on this, or on cleat positioning generally? What biomechanical factors/pathologies need to be taken into account? Is event selection part of the equation?
I found this study, which suggests at the very least that those advocating posterior cleat placement for efficiency in time trials are barking up the wrong tree: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=pubmed&cmd=Search&itool=pubmed_AbstractPlus&term=%22Van+Sickle+JR+Jr%22%5BAuthor%5D
