Nach dem Giro und dem spanischen Blutdopingskandal war Valverde dann aber offenbar kein Thema mehr für den Bonner Rennstall. With training camps about to open and the start of the new season in sight, it's no wonder that the rumour mill has started up again. It spit out a big one on Sunday, as Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported that Caisse d'Epargne's Alejandro Valverde was expected to sign with T-Mobile shortly. The paper claimed that T-Mobile manager Bob Stapleton was in Madrid for the signing, and that he had negotiated an end to Valverde's contract with the Spanish squad.
But the defending ProTour champ won't be wearing magenta this year: T-Mobile spokesman Stefan Wagner denied the transfer and told Cyclingnews: "These are only rumours which are not true."

I'll bet Piti was keen, drooling over T Mobile's 3 mil a year salary offer, and then they mentioned the clauses - blood volume testing, DNA sample for possible future analysis, cash-back guarantees, signed statements to deny any contact with Fuentes - suddenly he goes cold on them. Still, I'll bet contact with T Mobile did his contract with Illes B no harm: they will now feel obligated to up his salary to keep him.

"So Bob and Rolf met him in early December in Murcia for the first and only time. They had a discussion with him for a couple of hours to see if there could be a general fit with our team, and more specifically with the team philosophy and our commitment to clean and fair sport. After this meeting, there was a follow-up phone call a few days later and we sent him a proposal with several conditions."
These conditions included DNA testing, a cash-back clause, routine medical checks and blood volume testing - but also confirmation that Valverde has had no contact with Eufemiano Fuentes, the doctor at the centre of Operación Puerto, nor links to the aforementioned investigation. "We haven't heard anything from him or his manager since this phone call. At no time was there direct contact with his team," stated Wagner.

Valverde renewed with Caisse d'Epargne today. T-Mobile has no new captain, a ruined image (their anti-doping image..) and some new enemies...

The problem I have with this press release is the indication he did not sign bccause of the anti-drug program. Now it is clear he was using other teams as leverage to get a renewed contract.
At some point cycling teams and organizations have to step away from doping allegations and general drug talk and keep them behind closed doors. They do not have to keep reminding the public and sponsors on their clumsy way of handling doping.
I am going to suggest that T-Mobile is one of the biggest losers in the OP scandal. I would fire their PR man. First they keep Zabel from riding the TDF and with this action they lose him to Milram... Smart move....They lose the rider that is the current #1 rider with victories to satisfy what could be considered cyclings #1 biggest disapointment.
