  1. When learning new tricks on my uni, I always learn the trick on the
other foot. I'm interested to see how many of you learn tricks on one
side, or both. I personally think that developing strength, balance and
coordination on both sides is important and should never be overlooked
as the benefits are well worth the extra effort.

  2. Whenever I learn a new trick, I always promise myself I'll learn it on
the other foot 'later on'. It never happens. I'll start learning
something completely new and never come back to it. I'm not even sure
if I can freemount with my right foot!

  3. Several of the basics I made sure to learn on both sides:

    One footing
    One foot backward
    One foot wheel walk

Still got to improve my non-dominant hopping...

  5. I discovered recently that I can use my "goofy" hand for SIF hopping in
the direction I'm less comfortable. I usually hop right foot forward
and right hand on the seat, but this makes it feel better to hop to the
left. The other day I used my left hand on the seat, and discovered it
helped me SIF hop to the right better than I could before.

I also do a lot of hopping both ways, and one foot riding both ways. Is
    anyone totally symetrical?

  6. I can mount with either foot, but I mount usually with my left foot, but
my right foot is more dominant I believe.

I hop right foot forward, hold my seat with my left hand.

I side mount with the right foot on the pedal first.

  8. I've learned to use either foot for 50% of what I can do:

Freemount - can use either foot, but not on my 29" yet, SCARY because I
can just barely do it on the junky 20" I have right now
Rolling mount - this one I haven't tried starting with my right foot
    first

I'm trying to learn idling, and I'm switching legs after awhile
everytime I practice, which hasn't been much. I'm hoping I'll be able
to use either leg when I get it with one.

I'm the same although my idling with my other foot is really shaky. I
also have a hard time doing rolling hops with my poor foot in
completely horizontal position, but if the cranks are vertical almost
either position I can do it.

  10. I learned one footed idling with my non dominent foot just because it
was on the 10 skill levels list. I almost never attempt to learn other
tricks for both sides, though. I hate the learning process, it's long
and boring. If it's a trick I can already do with one side, that's
    good enough for me.

  11. Kinda, well, no. I can ride one footed with either foot, and I can
mount with either foot...and I'm trying to learn to be better at
hopping with my bad foot forward. I do that for juggling though...I
learn a trick on both sides.

  12. The only skill I can do with either foot is idling, quite important
because if you have to stop, the cranks won't necessarily be the way
you want them. I could idle right foot down forever, but left foot down
is slightly more unstable. In fact, I have been known to demonstrate
idling with left foot down in order to deliberately make it look
    wobblier.

Other skills/tricks such as hopping are really nice (and sometimes
essential) to learn either footed, but here's what I don't understand:
why would anyone learn to freemount with either foot on the pedal
first? The uni is stationary, hence you can easily always spin the
wheel round to the way you want it to be.

Saves a second or two, to not have to reorient the wheel so the pedals
are the way you need them to mount. Not a large difference, but it
saves a bit of annoyance, so I think it's nice to have.

  15. Yes, I tried to learn everything with both legs.
As a matter of fact I often practice the non-dominat foot, as the
dominat foor will automatic learn as well.
Also I want to learn side-ride with my other foot (as it creates
    possiblities).

I now also practice figure skating, at least once a week. My progress
seems to be amazing. I learn everything on both sides, including jumps.
It's not very common to do so among figure skaters. But my
unicycle-experience learned me it's smart to do so for future progress.
