Can you please elaborate. Are you just talking about the saving in
bus/train fares or do you just have a more far-seeing employer?

I actually receive £85 as a green incentive from my employer every month for
not taking my car to work and this system has been in operation for about 7
years.

Is this a taxable benefit or can an employer use it as a way to get
more money to the employee without tax?

I currently pay myself the revenue's mileage rate for cycling.

If you are paying yourself the mileage rate for cycling to work, that
will be taxable. Its only mileage on business, excluding between home
and work, that counts for tax free.
