Thinking Campy

Also-while I am being selfish-anyone know the major differences in Centaur and Veloce grouppos?

and when in the heck did Campy become less than Dura-ace and Ultegra??? I know Ive been out of it for many years-but this is like hell freezing over right??

Never heard of it but what do I know. A safer choice may be Campag version of Neuvation R28 wheels. They have a nice following with good reviews on the net.

As for the difference b/n Centaur and Veloce, well, slightly lighter, slightly more durable, slightly more bling. But at the end of the day, I wouldn't bother with Centaur and would just stay with Veloce. The next step for me would be Chorus which is the most durable of all the groups and with all the desirable technologies of Record without too much CF and Ti. The Ti cogs of Record cassettes makes it lighter but also less durable.

Campag less than Dura Ace? Nay, never heard of that. Although I know some people considers Chorus to be the equivalent of Dura Ace and Veloce is above 105. But who cares? Use what feels nice and works for you.

The worst part is my Zipp 303/Power Tap is Shimano!! NO way I am buying a Campy PT!! And my lt. wt DT racing rear wheel-yup-Shimano!! I plan on racing everything except maybe a long A-road race with the PT this year. Even time trials-I'll get a wheel disc for it.

Campy has that draw though....

sogood-yeah-Ive seen Neuvations up close-definately seem like a nice "inexpensive" but good wheel.

I'm scoping out Veloce and Chorus bargains on fleabay for sure. I didnt even know about Centaur till I went to Campy's website-lol

No R28's in campy for the US market (says Australia only), but they do make a r28SL for campy for $399. Its moree spokes, but lighter weight.

Those Wheels were stock on Cannondale R800s. They are likely much heavier than 1720g, and they have been criticized for their stiffness.
Cheap for a good reason.

Since I don't own a Power Tap, I'm not sure how the freehub is secured, but it can't be that complicated ... only so many ways to do it ... instructions MUST BE available ...

BTW. Centaur used to be Daytona ... the name was changed a few years ago due to apparent copyright infringement (you know, like the IOC suing EVERY Greek restaurant that had the name "Olympic" in their name). The Centaur group is a little lighter than the Veloce group and the finish is a bit better; but other than (possibly) the rear hub, they are essentially the same.

FWIW. Record stuff used be be slightly more expensive ... actually, the price of Campagnolo "stuff" was forced down about a half-dozen years ago during what appeared to be a price war when Shimano's stuff became deeply discounted because of the Dollar-Yen exchange rate ... Campagnolo followed suit and lowered the price of their components ...

So, Dollar-Yen fluctuation AND ongoing residuals of what I refer to as the Lance-effect may have made Shimano more expensive than Campagnolo in some markets ... and similarly, there is certainly little demand for USED (or, "removed"😉 Campagnolo components (at least, in North America).

As suggested you can get a Campy freehub for your PT wheel and also for the DT rear hub--They are about $75 US dollars.

I have both Veloce and Centaur stuff on some of my bikes--no difference in performance but Centaur is a bit lighter for some of the components.
