New Trek frames in development

I think its a vast improvement visually from thier current bikes, Looks to be a very short wheel base, similar in concept to how giant does the TCR advanced, shorten all the tubes and short chain stays keeps everything stiff and lite.

Big question I'd like to know: is this the injection molded plastic bike we heard about a while ago?? And is it going to be as over priced as thier current range of bikes? When will Basso be riding one down to the medical center for training rides?

Look 595 rip off much? (seat post built in)

Is Trek going compact? Yech! That will leave almost no big manufacturers that are making traditional geometry frames. I guess the temptation to sell just a few sizes instead of a proper range is just too great.

Just because they are going compact does not mean a wide range of sizes.

And the 595 was a few years behind BH and Giant at doing integrated seat posts. If you took the stickers off it you could easily pass it off as a 07 Giant or BH.

Looks to have a taller head tube to top tube relationship than Treks current range, nice low BB, and insainly short chain stays. Doesn;t look like there will be a normal seat post version unless they change the seat tube shape a lot! Shame as the integra post bikes ride very harshly (so I've heard) and they are a pain traveling with (needs a bigger box).

Bobby can you find some other way to show the info on the paceline site?

So in compact parlance does that mean instead of having S, M, and L they will have S, M, L, and XL? Or wil they go for the extra wide compact range and add an XS?

The number of sizes in a range depends purely on how many sizes a company wants to tool up for. Its not a rule that if you go compact you must only have 3-5 sizes. A number of Italian companies offer thier bikes in "sloping" and "standard" geometry (not always in their carbon frames) and offer up to 10 sizes in each style.

If you want to cut the price of bikes you sell, and concentrate on the middle of the bell curve, you produce fewer frame sizes. It has nothing to do with compact or traditional frame shapes. Its just the modern economic trend.

Note on Bobby's latest pics. Looks like a 1 1/4-1 1/8" headset, and clearly an early propotype as only one in the bunch has the new wonder bike! Still looks like external cable routing (with shimano cables in all directions.....)

Don't worry Bro Deal. You can always get just about any frame size (including custom) from some of the big boys like Colnago. Costs a buttload, but you can get either sloping or classic geometry... :o

What IS the deal with the seat tube and seat post being one solid piece? Maybe I'm completely missing something regarding how the seat height itself is adjusted, but what's the reason behind doing this? I know that technological innovation in the bicycle industry can't progress by leaps and bounds in all areas, but is something so terribly flawed in the STANDARD setup with a height-adjustable seatpost that some companies (Giant, and now Trek) make it one piece?

I just don't get it, I guess.

I don't have anything against compact frames, but I prefer the traditional. I believe it is now just a marketing battle between the big bike companies and compact frames are the weapon of choice. I'll stick with my traditional C'dale, and pray that they don't get caught up in all of this.

WE have a winner. That was my first attempt at photoshopping a bike. The wheel switch was very tedious and its missing an inch of spoke, and the chain looks a little off. But, it seemed to have fooled people.

I think the actual trek one is semi-compact, 1 1/4"- 1 1/8" headset, and extended seat tube, not ISP. They are copying Giant though.
