  1. A few weeks about I bought a trainer, planning on being better prepared for spring... and thus began my saga of pain. Not only was I experiencing the trainer for the first time, but a new saddle, a Selle Italia SLR. I'd ridden the SLR XP, all summer so I thought the regular SLR wouldn't be a big deal as a replacement (the SLR XP's rails got bent in a crash). The only observable difference between the two is that the SLR XP has a bit more padding, and is 30 grams heavier.

Problem is that now things start getting numb after about 10-15 minutes on the trainer. It's not severe numbness, but its still not something I'm going to just ignore.

The SLR XP was never what I woud call plush, but it worked ok. In hindsight I should have experiment with some other saddles before just getting another, albeit slightly less padded, SLR. I'm not sure wether the numbness is due to the saddle, or the fact that when on the trainer I don't have shift around on the saddle as much as on the road.

    What I've tried so far:

Adjusting the tilt of the saddle
Better shorts (something I needed anyway)

Things have improved a bit, but the problem persists...

    Any other ideas?

only other idea would be to try out another saddle really, you seem to have all other bases coverd.

i personally run SDG bel air's on all my bikes, always found them comfy myself.

  3. One idea is to get your bike fitted. Although they can be expensive, it is well worth the money. My coach fitted me and I feel 100% better all around on my bike. You could try to find a pro in your area that may do it for a more reasonable price than some bike shops.

    +1
Had a bike fit which solved my numbness problem.
He raised my seat height, which seemed counter intuitive, but did the trick. More pressure on the sit bones, less pressure on the family jewels.

  5. You hay have a similar saddle, but is it installed just like the other one? Most times when people complain about a sadle it has more to do with it being properly fitted fore and aft and heaightwise.
