I recently sustained a knee injury during a late season 150 mile ride. Basically, when I stood up to climb a hill I had a sudden pain in my knee. The pain is in the top/front of my knee and I suspect it’s inflammation of the tendons. I did the usual routine of RICE, resting for 4 days, but the pain came back on my next ride. Then I took off 8 days and still the pain came back on my next ride, though not as intensely. For those of you who have developed tendonitis during training, how long do you find it takes to recover?

Hey BtonRider. About 1 1/2 years ago I developed knee pain so badly I thought my competitive riding days were over (I was 45 at the time). A friend of mine who is a top keirin rider here in Japan told me about how he treats other keirin pros with knee pain with foot reflexology and told me he could help me. I'm usually totally skeptical about that sort of thing, but when I heard about the keirin pros he treats (including one of the Olympic medalists from 2004) and how they've been helped by it, I figured it was worth a try. The treatment was REALLY painful on my feet, but my knees soon healed. I'm now back to doing a number of hillclimb races every season and just got a top ten finish in last month's 320km Tour d' Okinawa with no knee pain. If you can find someone who knows their stuff, you might want to give it a try.
Cheers! - nojiri
