New 10 sp cassette on new Mavic wheelset

Are you certain that the play is the cassette and not the freehub? If
the latter, a little bit of play is normal.

Not yet. 11-speed drivetrain systems are due out next year. Rear stay
spacing will go out to 135mm, the new standard for road bikes. This will
render all previous wheels and alu and carbon frames obsolete. Until
internally geared rear hubs take over in 2010, rendering all
derailleur-based systems as quaint and as antiquated as the lever-based
shifters of the 1940's:

Seriously, you should be able to rotate the cassette lockring a couple of
revolutions for good thread engagement. If you have this and you're still
bottomed-out, then just insert a spacer closest to the spokes. Your bike
shop will have many of these in their metal recycling bin leftover from
used-up throwaway cassettes. Typical width of these is about 1-1.5mm.

Need the fat spacer Mavic provides with the hub(you got this, correct?)
and the thin spacer that comes with any shimano 10s cogset(you got
this, right?), to be used on a 'standard' 9s freehub body-use both
spacers.
