o.k. your right. it just appears after lemond made it worth so much to ride that the drug epidemic
shot through the roof in cycling.

although I just found out that the Italians have been the world champion long distance (50-200
miles) runners for the last 12 years. this would signify they are the forerunners in the use of
EPO.....especially in sports without serious drug control....

Athletics has had its share of doping incidents. I would say that an increase in positive tests is
due to improved testing rather than more dopers.

Your logic is flawed. Lemond may have pushed the top-end of the salary range up, but he had little
(if any) impact on what 95% of the peloton was earning. You'll still find plenty of D1 pros who earn
less then 50k Euros per year. Postal has a $12MM budget, 3-4 of which goes just to Lance. Divide the
rest among 30 riders, coaches and support staff (and buses, cars, etc).

It doesn't take large amounts of money to get human beings to behave like idiots. You could go out
right now and find 50,000 americans willing to do almost anything for the chance at winning a
t-shirt and a TV appearance. Cyclists don't have any unique sense of higher $ standards, from my
experience, so drug use does not amaze me at all.
