Get the Alex rims with a similar box section, and make some decals on
your ink jet that say Mavic. About $50 for two, including sticker
paper. make sure to clear coat them or the ink will run in the rain.
Seriously. I'm on my third bike with the basic Alex MA2 clones, and
they're more reliable than the Mavics, IMHO. It's the Chinese thing to
do! Bootleg rims. :-D

Hmmm, I was thinking the ma3 profile, not the flatter ma2. Still, Ma2s
aren't dear enough to warrant that kind of cabbage, unless you're doing
some kind of heroic restoration.

That's the thing. I'd been on their site and haven't found the MA2 clone.

Like I said, I had a brain fart and was thinking MA3. The DM18 in
silver is a nice MA3 replacement. Cheap, heavy, and indestructable.
Like Chalo always mentions, due to the stronger aluminum in these, the
extrusions aren't very pretty, so not a good choice for your app. I
love them on my commuters, though.

For a MA2 lookalike, why not a cheap and cheerful Sun CR-18 in nice
silver polish? About $25 on the street, and they look shiny and retro.

Actually at anything over $75 a pair I'm not interested in MA-2s. I
have a 26" pair that I've abused off and on on mtn bikes since 1991
which tells me they're fairly decent rims. Except for tire slippage
with fat tires they've worked well with 25mm slicks on up to 2.2" mtn
bike tires.

I'm looking for a 700c fully socketed silver rim that will work well
with 38mm to 45mm tires.

Still MA-3s out there even tho Mavic admitted that the rim was a dog,
with a tendency to pull eyelets out. New OpenSport, the MA-3
replacement, so far, so good after about a dozen built w/o any returns.
$35 rim.

DO NOT use a MA-3..bad rim.

I'm not sure if the DM18 or Adventurer rims from Alex are fully
socketed, but I do know that they're tough as hell, round, and build up
easily. Cheap to boot. Only drawbacks are a bit of weight, but if
you're running fatties, no big deal, and the fact that they're raw
silver, not polished.

But they appear to have garish graphics on them now.
