It has been about 30 days since my last 20 min FTP test. It is usually pretty easy to look at the power distribution (remove zeros, 15 watt bins) and pick off my FTP. When I look at my ride data from yesterday's hard ride, I have a really hard time picking it off - there seems to be a plateau where I would expect a large drop off.
If anyone can make a good guess at which bin to use as my FTP estimate - I would be very interested.
If you feel that your ride was hard enough that you attained max power at various durations, why don't you look at some of those durations and compare them with prior MPs. For example, what was your max 20m NP? What about your max 30m NP? What about your max 60m NP? Instead of using one stastistic or chart from the ride, why not look at the ride in total and compare your performance against other max effort performances?
Also, if your purpose in estimating your FTP is to set training targets, it will be self-correcting (especially if you over-estimate FTP). So, it's not really a big deal to take the higher number because if it overstates FTP you won't be able to complete your interval sets.

is this type of analysis worthwhile looking at just a single ride? I sometime look at my 'Last 28 day' power distribution but never bother with single rides ....

It looks to me like your FTP is somewhere between 210-220, where the significant dropoff is. 😄
