I have never really thought too much about the bottle holders on my bike (just use whatever I could find in the shed). However, with the dark evenings (and riding on dark rural roads) I seem to find it very difficult to get the bottle back in the bottle holder. As my routes are all fairly hilly and I am usually drinking as I reach the top of the climb there have been a couple of occasions where I find myself heading down a steap hill still frantically trying to replace the bottle.
I was therefore wondering if there are some bottle holders that are better than others. Could anyone provide some advice?

Yes, certainly it's easier to get the bottle in some cages (holders) than others. But, in my experience, the bottle tends to be more likely to bounce out of the ones with very easy insertion, especially after going over a big bump or after some minor incident where your back wheel has lifted.
I remember spectacularly jettisoning a bottle once after going over a speed hump too fast. Another time, a car ran over a fallen bottle which made the lid blow off to the other side of the wide road.
My favourite cage is Tacx Tao. Lightweight, stylish, grips the bottle well and is not /very/ difficult to insert without looking once you've got the knack. You can squash it a bit to alter the shape to your liking.
