... had a day off and took advantage of the clement weather in these
parts. Passed a couple of milestones.
Longest Distance to Date (ie since start of August) - 70km
Cleared 1000 km to date.
Saw first Dead Badger.
Ran over first Live Squirrel.
Also fell off. Damn right leg will NOT disengage from cleats in an
"emergency" situation - like when the front wheel has slipped off the
paved surface of Sustrans 51. Don't know why, set to minimum grip like
left pedal, and no problems there, and comes out ok under normal
circumstances, but it is the second time in a week I've hit the deck in
the same way.
Note to self : must get new bike for Christmas - something suitable*
for distance rather than bridlepath ... something that reaches more
than 26mph in a tail-breeze free wheel descent of Marston Hill (down
from Cranfield in the direction of Bedford).

* suggestions welcome, budget is "under a grand with trimmings", and
"moderately robust" would be good. Saw a Claud Butler Dalesman in an
LBS recently - that sort of thing ...
