I've got some Dura Ace pedals from the early nineties, look compatible which creak terribly. My cleats are pretty new; only about 700 miles It looks to me like the retaining clips on the pedals are worn. Can these be changed out? Will anyone be likely to have the parts any more? Will oiling the clips/cleats help, or make things worse?
The new Dura Ace pedals look very nice, but I don't want to buy them now since I am thinking of upgrading my bike (currently Campy Record 8 speed equipped) to 10 speed, and thought I should wait to get the whole group, maybe next spring.
Oil, teflon spay, soap, wax they all work for a while. You can even use a little water if they start creaking while you are riding. Chris

Try Armorall on the pedal contact surfaces of the cleat. Avoid the surfaces you walk on so you don't slip. Liquid soap also worked once while out on the road, and the creaking started. I have old pedals and cleats, and these worked pretty well for quite a while (20-30 rides?).

Silicone lube works well. In dry conditions, applying weekly seems to keep the pedal/cleat interface smooth and noise-free. A big can of any generic brand is available at your nearest hardware store.

Bees wax stops the squeak/creak and seems to have some staying power.

I use the Armor-All wipes. The spray makes the bottom of the shoe slippery.
