OK, moving past the double/triple and pedal decisions with help of folks here, next I've got to decide on wheels to order with the new frame and request some input.
First, I've only ridden on 32 spoke Ultegra built up wheels....Mavic rims on the last two rebuilds of my old hubs. Guys tell me there is a noticeable difference in a light-weight premium wheelset, and that they are as durable as any conventional 32 spoke build. I'm not a racer, but a club rider (around 2000 miles/yr on training and weekend club rides). I am willing to spend to get an advantage in climbing, speed and comfort for the new bike, if that's possible.
As build-kit options, I'm homing in on Velomax Circuit Comps or Orions if I go with Ultegra/DA group, or Campy Proton/Zonda vs Orions if I go with Campy gruppo. (The Circuit Comps are Shimano-only).
Would like comments/impressions from Velomax and Campy riders especially. Key questions: 1) Are these wheels really worth the difference vs standard 32 spoke Mavic OP builds on new hubs? 2) Are they as durable for everyday riding and long multi-day road trips? I'm willing to pay for a high-performance wheelset that lasts for years on the new frame, but not a throwaway after a season or two. Thanks.
