Ah well, couldn't last.
Been riding, commuting, for a few weeks now and had only a few notable
incidents at all, and no injuries until today.
I'm riding along, same speed as traffic, if not mostly faster, when I see
another cyclist, full-on LOUD Lycra clad 'racer', approaching 'my' road from
a road on the left. No worries, thought I, I have right of way, he has a
'Give Way' and he's joining into a flow of traffic already on a main street
from a side street, classic Tee-Junction, so I concentrate more on the
traffic already in the stream and only keep a weather-eye on him.
BIG mistake ... Bugger didn't look, rode straight out and into me ... I'm
already desperately taking avoiding action, too late realising he's
continuing regardless, but there's cars to my right and a motorbike behind
me. I realise I could totally have avoided the situation, but had enough to
contend with avoiding cars and bikes on my route than doing the riding for
some doddery old git joining a stream of traffic as well and seriously
didn't expect him to not even slow down, let alone 'give way' to traffic..
He broke his wrist, I'm fine, but went with him to A & E 'just in case' as I
felt a bit woozy and shaken. My bike has a Taco'd front wheel. He reckons
he saw me but thought I was going much slower, so he concentrated on 'his
line ...' thinking he'd be round the corner well before me He's agreed to
pay for straightening or replacing the wheel. his bike was fine.
Ended up pretty amicable really, but we'll see what happens if I see him
next week ... 😉
Ah well, as I said earlier, couldn't last but could have been much worse.
