I know this is old news to most here, but for any newbies out there....
Bibs are the bomb! I can't imagine why I cycled around for nearly 3 years without ever trying on a pair of bibs. Now, I'll never revert back to regular cycling shorts. The comfort of bibs is amazing.

I've got about 12 (15?) pairs of bike shorts that I never wear any more (except on a mountain bike, which I seldom ride any more), even though I didn't have any "top rolling under belly" issues with them. Bibs are just more...{technical term alert}...serious bikey-ish.

I've had some. They're nice, but I prefer regular shorts. Bibs are good if you have a gut or "roll-down" issues. I find that will my shorts, if you hoist them high and geeky, they'll stay put just fine without having to have the shoulder straps of a mime. No offense to silent street performers intended.

I agree, bibs are great. Seems like just the slight constriction around the waist of regular shorts' drawstring can cut off my energy some. Might be psychological, but for some reason I just feel better energy flow from the lower body when wearing bibs.

Just wait until your first potty stop. You can't avoid it forever :-)

Until nature calls ...
If 'nature calling' interferes with your cycling may I suggest you're: eating too much; have a urinary problem; are riding >3-4hrs at a time.

I've stopped sleeping in my bibs last week. So, no problem. ;-p
Some yeas ago, Biemme made a bib called "Physio Pro". They had a two layer fold over fly. Worked great. I got a few pairs when I did their 2000 catalogue.
I have never seen anything like it since then.

Bibs are great, i love them too. But one major disadvantage is if you get a urge for nature's call and have to take a dump out someplace like on an organized ride. You pretty much have to almost strip all the way down to do it inside a porta-pottie. Shorts are then much more advantageous.

You don't take a [censored]. You keep riding, reabsorb all the water from it and give yourself an enema to get the damn thing out when you get home :-)

What a PITA (pun intended)!

At the rides end, mathematicians may work it out with a pencil.
You know, "bibs" never seemed to me like the right word for them. Some come up higher than others but none really come up as high as "bib overalls" which is what I think of, and certainly not as high as a bib used by slopper eaters. What distinguishes them from shorts is not how high they come up but that there are shoulder straps instead of a waistband that secures them.
"Suspender shorts" seems more descriptive but probably doesn't have much marketing appeal.

Bib shorts (and tights, for that matter) are the greatest thing in my cycling apparel collection. What I like best about them is that you can go from standing to sitting (or vice versa) and not have your shorts moving around on you. They just stay where they're supposed to stay.
As for taking care of things when nature calls, I don't really find that to be an issue, providing we're talking about excess liquids. Otherwise, it's the routine of emptying the pockets, removing the jersey, and then the shorts. Not really that big a deal though.
