Tyre Rotation?

I don't "rotate", but when the rear tyre is starting to need replacement, I put the existing front tyre on the rear, and put the new tyre on the front. (A rear tyre failure is annoying; a front failure is scary)

^^ yeah, same here, but this then presents the conundrum that a rear tyre is more likely to suffer punctures, so, the rear wheel with the more heavily worn tyre? Dilemma, dilemma 🙂

How about rotating your tyres left to right? 🙂 Ever noticed the front tyre wears more on the left because most of us make more left turns? Hmmmmm :p

It's also annoying when you want to try a new brand of tyre when the rear is up for replacement.. you're left with an orphan 'good' tyre! I don't think I'll get around to trying GP4000s until 2008, the way things are going... 🙄

I guess you could always flip the tyres around to take care of the left/right thing 😉 I CAN FEEL that extra 0.000004mm of wear you know! 😉 Must be good for an extra couple of tenths on the boulevarde

Hey good idea. ALthough I doubt it'll make much difference, but at least it'll give me a reason to tinkle around with the bike.

Tyre levers are the sworn enemy of the cyclist. Why anyone (other than OzMan) would want to fart-[censored] around with taking a tyre off one wheel and putting it on the other is beyond me.

Now, if you'll all excuse me, I've got to dash off and change the handle bar tape from one side to the other.

When my rear tyre wears out (or in the case of this weekend, gets a screw through it). I alternate between a new front, old front to rear, or just a new rear.

The only problem that I have found, is that the front tyre can get a nick in it, that isn't a problem when it is on the front, however, the extra weight on the rear causes problems.

yeah, I know what you mean, you've gotta get it so that the top bits are moved around to the underside of the bars. 🙂

Scientifically speaking, the more left turn wear is counteracted by the right side of the tyre wear caused by the camber of the road. [or put another way Oz & I need to get a life 😄 😄 ]

On sunny days when I look down at the front tyre I can see the uneven wear!! 🙁 🙂

what about different thicknesses?
i'm looking to move from 700x25 to x23.
would it make much of a difference which tyre was changed over first?
or best to do both at the same time?
(at nearly $100 a pop for one tyre, it'll be an alternate payday thing...)

don't pay that much for tyres.
Have a look on probikekit.co.uk you can get micheline pro 2 race tyres for about $35 each. Even with shipping, you'll be miles in front.

try probikekit.com, however, essentially HobartDave is spot on. Make sure you change the country and currency to Australia and everything will be in AUS dollars but with freight $19 australian you will be miles in front.....

and will a couple of alloy wheel weights take out the vibration in the handle bars, may be a wheel alignment 😄
