Ordered rims, hubs and spokes from an online retailer. The retailer listed the ERD for the rims and I used that ERD in my spoke calculations. Now, after lacing up the wheels but not starting tensioning, I see that the rim manufacturer has a different, smaller ERD listed at their site; the new ERD results in the spokes I ordered being about 3mm too long. What with rim shrinkage and spoke stretch during tensioning, am I asking for trouble her with these spokes?

Yes..not as many threads being engagaed plus depending on the rim/sockets/eyelets, may have the end of the spoke poke the rim strip enough to puncture the tube. Can't ya return the spokes/

In my, albeit limited, experience, it's more likely you wont get the wheel up to tension. Well, thats what happened when my spokes were a tad too long 🙁

What rim is this? It changed enough so that the spokes are 3 whole mm longer than they should be? That's a change in the ballpark of 6mm in ERD. With most spoke brands, you run out of spoke threads if the spokes are overlong by much at all.
ERD's get changed and sometimes various parties list the wrong ERD. What you really should do is just measure the ERD on the rims you have. I usually measure it before I build a wheel - most rim companies have at least a little history of making changes out of nowhere that cause the printed ERDs to be contradictory, and it's impossible to know what you have until you measure.
