trails around Big Sur

I am looking for the best trails so I can find the best/closest
accomodations. The trails come first. The most important thing about
the lodging is its access to the trails. Can you help?

There are no trails. It's all wilderness or private property. You can
go up to Monterey or south and inland to Pozo Junction, but there is no
legal singletrack on Hwy 1 between Monterey and Cambria.

Well, in that case there are a couple of nice, smooth, wide, atechnical
forest service roads she can cart them up. Be kind of boring for an
"avid downhill mountain biker".

I said Monterey to the north but even better would be to get all the way
up to Santa Cruz.
