There seems to be nothing in Road Race and nothing in MTB. (Wonder why that is)

AFAIK, based on my recollection, Cyclocross was "invented" in Europe during the 50s as an off-season way to stay-in-shape after the traditional season ended ... at the time, it was simply a matter of changing the large chainring & fitting cyclocross tires (e.g., 700x28 equivalent) onto the wheels because the same frames which were used during-the-Summer were built with greater tire clearance (most "racing" frames from the 80s could still handle 700x28 tires) ... so, cyclocross began as a step-child to road racing.
