I'm going on holiday next week as was planning on trying to take my Brompton bicycle.
I have checked the airline's baggage allowances, hand baggage can be up to 10kg (the bike weighs slightly less than this) unfortunately it doesn't fit within the dimensions of 500 x 350 x 230mm.
I will probably fit it into a case which can go in the hold.
I was just interested to see if anyone has taken a folding bike as hand baggage or has any tips on packing a folding bike in their case?

I somehow doubt you would get away with it in the UK at the moment. You also need to be first on because you won't squeeze it into an already half full locker.

At teh moment flying from the UK, forget it! I've made a couple of flights in teh past month, and they really are taking the pi$$, still the security people can stop you getting where you want so you have no choice but to play their game.
Put it in a bag can check it in, it's the only way.
Emmm... I see Paul Sladen quite often at UK Linux events. I don't THINK he commutes via 747 - even with folding bike as hand baggage. But yes, he is never more than six feet away from the trusty Brompton.

You've no need to be jealous, it's a basic C type so perhaps weighs less as it's got less add ons and I removed the bell. Either that or my bathroom scales aren't that accurate!
Interesting to see it fitting in a locker, I was wandering what I could remove to make it a smaller package, however if I strip it down too much it kind of defeats the object of a folding bike!!

I thought they were a bit heavier than they were. I just weighed the T3 I use* and it's 12.4 kg.
My day-to-day bike is 17kg all in (saddlebag, lock, etc.)
No experiance as hand luggage but I have taken mine on hols to Italy a few times and checked it in as hold luggage packed in it's original cardboard box and no harm has come to it. LBS where you got it should be able to supply the box FOC.
