I tend to think of a "hero" as someone who does something like running into a burning building to
rescue small children; or jumping on a hand grenade to save his buddies. Its no coincidence that
most soldiers that recieve the congressional medal of honor do so post mortum.

Tyler is a gutsy, tough, talented, hard-working racer. But that doesn't make him a "hero".

As I recall the truth was in between. Jan wasn't waiting, nor was he attacking. He was riding.
Hamilton had to push it to get to him.

Couldn't agree more. The notion of a hero has been cheapened. Teachers now call schoolchildren heros
just for completing the assignments they're supposed to be doing.

As for Tyler's ride? I'd just say it was pretty cool.

One opinion would be that Jan was following the higher tempo set by Lance and Mayo. At the time, it
looked like he was suffering. After the crash, Jan continued at his natural, or comfortable tempo.
This would be much slower than the tempo being set by Lance and Mayo, but not exactly slowing down
for lance to catch up. Once the chase group caught up, Jan fell into the new tempo being set by
Basso(?) Tyler's gesture was to admonish Basso for continuing the higher pace.

You didn't miss much. Lance is not too animated on these talk shows. He seems bored having to
explain the most rudimentary aspects of cycling every time, and, at this point, who can blame him?
While he appeared on Leno to plug his charity ride, the Tour of Hope, as well as his new book, both
shows featured the same video clip of his big crash in the TDF that we've all seen a dozen times.
And although Letterman seemed somewhat more informed than the moronic Leno, the charity ride wasn't
even mentioned, and Lance's entire Letterman segment only lasted about 5 minutes. The one
interesting point was a comment by Lance that regardless of the outcome of the 2004 TDF, he hasn't
ruled out racing in 2005.

Either Jan waited before Tyler told him he should... or he waited after. Either way he waited.

I knew Lance would not get much time having to play 3rd base to the "Survivor Loser" and then Halle
Berry, whom Dave was obviously quite smitten with!

I thought it was one of Lance's better interviews, though. Almost no AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH..'s
and almost none of the sneering looks he gives Frankie Andreu, as if to say, "you know this, why are
you asking me?"

Tyler didn't tell Jan to wait, he told Basso. I think some of the criticism Jan took was based on
the feeling that he should have told Basso to cool it, not Tyler.
