I recently installed a Vetta wireless computer on my bike. After riding around for a while I got to wondering about something. Does the location of the placement of the magnet and the sensor make any difference? Should they be farther up the fork, closer to the rim or farther down, closer to the center of the wheel? Or does it matter? Naturally I'm concerned about getting the most accurate reading.

Makes no difference. Mount it wherever it's most convenient.
I think that I can answer that question. The wheel only goes around once every time it passes the sensor. Your computer should already have the tire size programmed in so each revolution is a count at a given circumference. So no matter where you place it along the fork, it only counts once each time it passes. Now if it were a speedometer, it might make a difference.

Because you have a wireless computer, I would think it best to have the transmitter as near as possible to the computer. This means mounting it higher on the fork.
Did you read the manual? I ask because the designers of that unit ought to know best.

Actually, "Onefred" (Dave) got it right when he said to mount it as high on the fork as possible. This is absolutely true. You want the shortest-possible distance between the transmitter and the receiver; otherwise, the signal becomes that much less distinct from background noise (meaning that you may get random readings) and, as the battery ages and becomes weaker, it will require replacement much sooner.

It *seems* like it should but it doesnt. Twice recently I had the chance to compare my readings to those on radar "This is your Speed" doo-hickeys and both times mine was dead on. It was at the bottom of a hill so I presented a variety of speeds from 12 to 21 mph and across the spectrum it was accurate.
