  2. probably the 29", but both would work well

    --
    torkerdx

their are 2 types of unicyclist. ones who can suck it up and go for
things and ones who can't. guess which ones become good?

  3. It's not easy to tell from the video. Some of the wide singletrack and
fire road looks like good 29er territory, but there are also some bits
where the camera's banging around as the rider does drops and such. It
looked like there might be some stuff in there that would be tricky to
handle on a 29er. You might try a 24 with shorter cranks as a
    compromise.

  4. looks like fun.. they both do look good but the 29er looks better for it

ehh i didnt make this up but it takes twice the man (or woman) to ride
half the bike and im sure everybody agrees

unicycle isnt a hobby, its a life style

  5. Is it an actual race where you are riding down for the fastest time? Or
are you just wanting to ride the trail for fun?

It looks like the trail could be done on a 29er. However, I'm not sure
if the 29er would actually be faster. The 29er would be slowed down by
the bumpy sections and the sections of loose rock.

My gut feeling is that a 24x3 muni or a 26x3 muni with shortish cranks
(150's or so) would be faster and more fun for that trail. The fatter
tire will soak up the bumps and plow through the loose rocky sections.

  6. Tough choice. The top 29", but the bottom has some tight technical
    spots.😕

Or 29" with 170mm cranks. Probaby better clearance in those ruts on
    the lower half.

    Or a 2.5" (or wider😕 ) tire on the 29". I know I've seen them
    somewhere.

  10. Do you own both a KH 24 and a KH 29er? Or are you planning on buying
one of them for the race?

One option would be to put a 26x3 wheel in the 29er frame. 'musketman
    did that' (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52557) and
it works. But use a lighter tire than the 26x3 Gazz. Something like
    the IRC Kujo.

A 26x3 wheel is just slightly smaller in diameter than a 29er. The fat
3" tire makes it a kushy kruiser that can handle bumpy terrain and loose
rocky terrain better than a 29er. Not as nimble as a 29er, but it's
able to plow through things that would slow the 29er down.

  11. For a race against bikes I'd say 29". Crank length to depend on the
difficulty of the trail. I run mine with 160s, but for speed I'd use
150 for rough terrain or 140 for not-so-rough.

  13. Looking at the video, it looks pretty steep, so in real life it's
probably super steep. It's also obviously more rocky than it looks, the
guy filming was jolting around tons. The guy in front is fully padded up
    and wearing a full facer.

I'd go 24 or 26. If you really have to go 29, then long cranks and the
fattest tyre you can fit, but to be honest, on a decent rocky downhill,
    you'll probably be faster on a 26 with a fat tyre, than on a 29 with a
    narrow tyre.

The thing that slows you down most in a race is falling off. If you
don't have a muni yet, you might be fastest on a 24, simply because
you're less likely to fall off.

I'd have 150 cranks, just because that's what all my unicycles have.
    Seems to work.

If it's a race with each rider let off one after the other, make sure
you get the last ride in your category, otherwise you'll probably be
overtaken by later riders and get in their way, which isn't good from a
    safety point of view.

  14. I just watched the video again. I only saw the guy in front do one
revolution of the pedals during the entire video. He was coasting the
entire way down, at least for the parts where he was visible in the
    video.

I hope they have a fully rigid single-speed category for the bikes.
That would make it more fair the unicyclist to compete against.

  15. 29" wheels where built for that trail. And I would enter the "brakeless,
1:1 ratio fixie" catagory if I where you. That, or ride a bc wheel.
Unicycles only ever stand a chance against bikes going up 🙁

unless you are just riding it for fun. In which case maybe wait till
the race is over and ride for free?

Either way, good luck and have fun!

  16. I am the only unicyclist in my country

i will go there and try not to be last in hardtail category couse there
will be lots of bad drivers,
it will be time race so only one at the time

people don't believe that i can finish the race :o) but i know that i
can but i wan't to be the fastest i can, that means also staying on
uni the whole race and on uni it should be around 5 minutes long

    i had a 24" and 20" but never 29er so i am scared

Uni should arive few days before and i will have 2 days of training on
    the rode

i think i will go with 24" but i will try 150 and even 137

    tnx everyone

the not falling part is i think the most important and time consuming
couse last week when they cleared the stage lot's of training bikers
    fell of on the ride

if i stay put all the time that could be very good, maybe i wont be
    last:o)

but mostly it is for fun

    šorry for grammar :o)

With a relatively new unicycle, a 24" sounds like a really sensible
    idea.

Entering bike races is super fun, have a good time. Looks like some
great mountains there for riding in.

Yeah since the 29" is so new definately go w/ the 24". Bring different
crank sizes and try the shorter ones out on the technical parts on a
    practice run if possible.
