ceramic bearings

  1. I am a mechanical engineer in a aerospace group working bearings, seals
    & lube. Ceramic bearings have there place in the world. High speed
    applications (machine tools) were the low mass of the rolling elements
    relates to lower centrifugal loads, and lower loads on the races.
    Steel bearings (9310) are perfectly adequate for bicycle use. Ceramics
    have no advantage except high cost.
    BTW, steel is a darn good frame material too...it just doesn't "market"
    well in today's world. How many things are labled "titanium" these
    days which don't have a speck of Ti in them?

    Only the ones that aren't somehow "Turbo."
