  1. I'm looking to get another bike...

...so here's my dilemma; I am a roadie.

I've ridden mtbs and I'm not the biggest fan.

I live in an area which has a really wet and cold winter & spring and I want to extend my riding season. I got out last year in Dec. and Jan. when everything was nice and dry, but I don't want to be limited to 'nice and dry' winter days. I figured I needed a cyclocross bike, since the geometry is similar to a road bike... since my environment is so wet and/or icy, I decided that a disc brake system was the way to go; now, here is the issue: the least expensive cyclocross that I have found with with disc is around 1.4K.

I looked at Cannondale Cyclocross Disc (too expensive) and I've looked at Specialized Tricross (no disc!)... and I don't want a MTB (I won't ride it).

any suggestions? comments? etc...? thank you in adavance.

I ride a road bike year round and I live in Massachusetts. I've been out in low single digit temps and snow. For the winter, I replace my slicks with a heavier tire with a little more tread, but that's it. I know guys that ride cross bikes on the road in the winter, but why give up speed or spend more money on a bike that's really made for riding on dirt.

Your points are why I'll never ride a MTB. I like the speed of a road bike too much, but I do like the hardpacked fire-roads in my area (esp. when they are frozen) and i don't want to ride my precious roadbike in 'the [censored]'...

...you see, money isn't 'really' an issue; I have 2 road-bikes and I am selling the older one to fund (at least most of) the new bike... I am thinking about a Cannondale Bad-Boy Disc; but putting drop bars and cyclocross tires on it and turning it into an AT road beast... with all my research I think it's possible.
