there, but we just couldn't pull it off, or...jesus, we don't have enough time for me to list all
the B.S. I've read and heard over the past 10 years since Armstrong won. What happened to project
'96, or project Triad? The [censored] can, that's what. Anybody remember when Frank McCormack & Horner got
the smack down in '96 so Greg Randolf could ride the Olympics. Holy sh$t, his career took off!

I know its easy for us all to sit hear and criticize, but hey we've had a lot of practice. This is
no slight against the riders, but if 18th was all we could muster with what was a decent
team...Maybe its time for Och to go and the mechanics who can't get Bobby J a bike (like he's F-ed
for 2004 for for sure).

Seriously (really), I think we need to really give a hard look at how our team was pulled together,
because this ain't the first time this has happened.

BTW: Could we get these gguys matching shorts? I mean what does USAC have sponsors for? Every other
team looks like one and we're riding like its 1989...hmmm, we did win that year, though.

Ya, we sucked this world championships, however: since the first Americans started venturing over
the Atlantic in 1980, Americans have won 3 world championships and 8 Tours de France.

We aren't good at the Classics, but what to expect? Our country simply does not have the cycling
heritage that some of the European nations do.

I will say this: the North American scene is maturing and at some point we should start
*expecting* results. But not yet - look at the difference between the lengths of the typical Euro
race (and Worlds) and the typical N. American race. Also, look at what the race schedule is here
in the summer. Hardly anything. Those issues need to be resolved before we can start *expecting*
medals at Worlds.

I liked that the Italians had matching kit but each rider's regular team was on the shorts.

Exactly. Americans are in no position to expect any kind of cycling results. How ridiculous. If
interest in cycling wanes after LA retires, you can blame these fans that want all or nothing rather
than showing respect for results that are nothing to be ashamed of. Look at all the guys that
finished behind and then you might start to appreciate that winning the Worlds RR or any other top
race for that matter is not something that anyone can expect.

about the date and the relativly low priority placed on the WC.

As for producing better riders... What can you expect when Chris Carmichael is coaching the best(?)

Shorts: each rider wears their normal team shorts, just like virtually all the other guys
in the race.

Cycling does not allow this so it does not get Big US TV supports, This exposure would allow more
kids to see cycling as a sport not something they do till 16. So only 1 out of 100 (if that high)
talented atheletes may even think about cycling as a sport to do.

4th is not too bad...I think ours is not a rider problem per se at the elite level; look at US Pro.

Take a look at the photos again. Most teams have matching shorts. We don't. Its like we're a third
world country. Man, can't performance pony up and add some shorts for worlds?

Notice though that after the Men's WC Soccer Tourny some event's like socer and currently the last
innings of the series' are commercial free wwith either a longer piece as timing allows or a corner
spot that changes through the broadcast. It's not perfect but it's getting a little better. One stil
has to fill al the dead soace in football though.
